When was the International Olympic Committee formed?
Bet your knowledge and answer Start the quizCorrect answer
1894
Explanation
The 1896 Olympic Games in Athens were the first Summer Olympics of modern times. Roman Emperor Theodosius I had banned the ancient Olympic Games in 393 AD as part of a Christian campaign against paganism. At a congress in Paris in 1894, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) was founded, and the Greek capital of Athens was chosen as the host city for the first Olympics. Greek Spiridon Louis won the marathon, while the most successful participant was the German wrestler and gymnast Carl Schuhmann. The Games returned to Athens in 2004.
